Recommended Dog Food & Feeding Advice: Our breeding mothers receive the best dog foods on the market: Eukanuba and Science Diet. After their puppies have been weaned, we start this same diet for them as well. We mix the two types together to give you more of a choice as to what type of dog food to start them on. These are the two types they are used to, but if you do decide to switch to another brand, you may want to make a gradual change. There are samples of the Eukanuba and Science Diet found in your Puppy Starter Package that I recommend you mix with your choice of dog food at first, then, slowly get them used to the new brand. If your puppy is tiny, younger, or they are having a hard time chewing the dog food, you may want to try soft food in a can. You can also try moistening the dry food with a slight amount of water to dampen it, but not soak the food. This will make it a little easier on their puppy teeth and also help them make the transition to dry food. If your puppy does not seem to be eating well I would recommend buying Nutri-Cal or a sugar supplement to help keep their sugar level up. You can mix a tiny amount into their water bowl so that they drink it up with the water, or place a small amount on the roof of their mouth to eat. Science Diet AD is recommended for puppies under 2 lbs. This can only be purchased at a Veterinarian Office. Chicken, Veal Baby Food, Iams Puppy Food, Caesar’s Select Dinners, and Eukanuba Puppy Weaning Formula are other alternatives for such tiny puppies that can be purchased at most pet stores. Do not feed them beef flavored foods right away. These have added coloring and flavors that may upset their stomachs. Teacup and Toy breeds are very delicate pets that require more attention and care.

Bathing Cautions: Immersing your puppy’s head into water can cause Pneumonia. Some puppies gasp for air from fright when they are bathed causing water to leak into their noses and mouths. Make sure to keep these areas covered while you are bathing them. On tiny puppies, Pneumonia can lead to death. Washing your puppy’s face with a warm wash cloth is a better alternative at least until it reaches 4 months of age.

Weather Cautions: Please keep your puppy warm in the winter and do not let them sleep in drafty areas. Extremely hot temperatures in the summer can also cause your puppy to become dehydrated and sick to the point of death if unattended.
