Vaccinations: All vaccines that are required for your puppy’s age are given prior to leaving our location. Please keep your puppy updated on all of their shots. Even though puppies do need to be socialized at an early age, it is best to avoid taking your pet to the park, on walks in the neighborhood, or around other unknown pets until it has been fully vaccinated and has a fully developed immune system (usually 16 weeks of age). This is because until your Puppy has had its full set of vaccinations, it's immune system may not be properly equipped to handle diseases which it could come in contact with. Your puppy could easily get worms, parvovirus, or coccidia from contaminated feces on the ground. Unfortunately, these diseases can live in feces and on the ground for many days and can be easily transmitted to a puppy. People who handle the puppy should wash their hands before touching. Since parvovirus can also be carried on the bottom of your shoes, it is a good idea to keep shoes that you wear outdoors from contacting any area where the puppy sleeps/plays. Seek veterinary treatment immediately if your puppy has come in contact with any of these diseases and has not been fully vaccinated, as they can cause death in your puppy.
Worm Infestation: All of the puppies we sell are given 1 to 4 mild doses of over the counter de-wormer depending on their age and size. They may need another dose from your vet within 3 to 10 days of receiving your pet. It is mandatory that you request a fecal exam on your puppies first office visit, your new puppy may need a prescription de-wormer if worm eggs are still present. The de-wormer we use is not a prescription de-wormer; therefore, it is only able to kill live worms in their system, it is not effective on the worm eggs. These eggs can be hatched and re-infested within the puppy’s system if not treated. Take a stool sample to your vet on the first visit to have him check to see if your puppy has worms. It will be your responsibility to get a prescription de-wormer and de-wormer preventive if needed on your puppy's first office visit.
