 Parvo & Distemper: There is a series of 4 vaccines that your puppy will need to protect them from Parvo & Distemper. Your puppy will have received 1 to 4 of those vaccines prior to leaving our location. You will receive a full list of those vaccines on your puppy's shot records.

 

A Parvo test is required if your new puppy is showing any signs or symptoms that could be Parvo related.

The incubation period for Parvo is 3 to 14 days. If you are not sure what type of symptoms are associated with Parvo, you can read about them in our health section on our web site at www.TexasTeacups.com. The library, the internet and your vet would be other sources of information as well.

 

IF YOUR VET SUSPECTS THAT YOUR PUPPY MAY HAVE PARVO:  Contact us immediately. There is some documentation we will need to send you. Remember, we do not reimburse vet bills.

 

Therefore, Teacup and Toy Pets will not replace the pet if it contracted or died from Parvo after 15 days of leaving our location.

 

Should you decide to have a Parvo test done during your first vet visit and the test shows to be positive at that time, I will replace the puppy in question if it does not recover or needs to be euthanized. However, an autopsy and intestinal tissue sampling will be required by Rebecca Bice. Some exceptions may apply.

 

Because puppies only have a 10 % survival rate, we do not pay any vet bills related to Parvo, Distemper, or Carona. It is your choice to have your pet euthanized right away or pay the vet to attempt and save its life. We will pay your vet directly, up to $75.00 to have a puppy euthanized to prevent suffering as long as you have it done within 72 hours of being diagnosed with Parvo. (Must be within the 15 day time limit)

 

IF YOUR PET DIES FROM SUSPECTED PARVO:  Our puppies at approximately six weeks of age receive 1 ml of a strong Neopar, parvovirus vaccine that contains the modified live virus. Due to our puppies receiving this vaccine, if their systems are compromised with worms, parasites, or other illnesses they can test positive for Parvo. Therefore, should your puppy die and the veterinarian believes it to be Parvo an autopsy and intestinal tissue samples will be required. Some exceptions may apply.

 

AUTOPSY AND INTESTINAL TISSUE SAMPLES:  DO NOT HAVE THIS DONE UNTIL YOU HAVE THE APPROVAL FROM REBECCA BICE.

 

REBECCA BICE WILL PAY FOR THE AUTOPSY AND TISSUE SAMPLE IF THEY CONIRM THE DEATH IS DUE TO PARVO. Your pet would then be replaced according to the health guarantee provided it was diagnosed with Parvo within the first 15 days of being in your care.

 

If death is due to injury or some other illness, Rebecca Bice will review the case and make a determination as to what will be paid and if the puppy will be replaced.

 

 

Stress: Because Chihuahuas, Maltese and Malti-Poos are such a small breed, stress (such as diet changes, moving to a new home, etc.) can affect them physically. Symptoms usually consist of coughing, diarrhea, hypoglycemia, or infections. Always check first with your veterinarian to rule out a more serious reason for these symptoms, but coughing, diarrhea, and low blood sugar are fairly common responses to stress. Many of these symptoms are temporary and will go away once the puppy gets used to its new environment or situation. Of course, you need to treat low blood sugar as described in the Hypoglycemia section. Because stress can cause the immune system to become depressed, this may make the puppy susceptible to bacterial and/or viral infections. Your veterinarian will best be able to diagnose this and prescribe antibiotics in the case of a bacterial infection.
